What to do around Lake Narlay and Le Frasnois?

Le Frasnois and Lake Narlay offer an exceptional setting in the heart of the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park, nestled among turquoise lakes and Jura forests. The quaint village of Le Frasnois charms visitors with its authentic Franche-Comté character, traditional farms, and soothing tranquility.

Near Camping Lac de Narlay, visit the Jura’s must-see attractions, such as the Hérisson Waterfalls (10 min), the 4 Lakes Viewpoint (15 min), the Pic de l’Aigle (20 min), or Les Rousses and its Comté cheese dairies (35 min) for a vacation rich in nature and discovery.

The Cascades du Hérisson

Just a 10-minute drive from the campground, discover the Cascades du Hérisson, a site designated as a “Grand Site de France.” 

Trails available:
- Short loop (1.5 hours): Saut Girard → Eventail → Grande Cascade
- Full loop (3 hours): 31 waterfalls, intermediate level

Practical information:  Paid parking during high season (July–August). Family-friendly starting point. Bring hiking shoes and water.

Viewpoint over the 4 Lakes

From the Col de la Colombière (15 minutes from the campground), take a 10-minute walk up to the lookout point, which offers a 360° view of : 
- Lake Narlay (our neighbor) 
- Lake Ilay (the largest) 
- Lake Petit Maclu 
- Lake Grand Maclu 
 
Easy hike: 1 hour round trip, flat, stroller-friendly. Perfect for sunset photos.

Fishing at Lac de Narlay

The Jura’s top natural lake for fishing (depth: 48 m). From the campground, fishing spots are just 100 m away and accessible without a car.

Species: Perch, pike, zander.  

Fishing permit: Association du village du Frasnois (€5/day, sold on-site in summer).
 
Rules: Max. 2 rods, minimum trout size 23 cm. 

 Best time: May to October, morning/evening.

Fort des Rousses

Just 35 minutes from the campground, visit this former fortress that has been converted into a Comté cheese aging cellar (100,000 wheels!).
 
1.5-hour guided tour: military history + cheese-making.

A must-see for foodies: tasting of young and aged Comté, direct sales.  

Hours: Open year-round; reservations recommended in summer.
 
Bonus: Comté Museum + regional products shop.
